Good news at last
about the car park and path lighting. We are informed by
Gateshead Council that the Department of the Environment has
approved safeguards for the Otters which were causing
difficulties over the path lighting scheme. Lighting from the
car park to the club will be provided by bollards and it is
proposed that the lights will be on from dusk to 10pm in winter
and 11pm in summer. The car park will be hard surfaced and lit.
We are informed that work should start in May and will take
three to four months. The car park will be closed for the
duration and we will have to use the football club car park or
it may be possible to park on the road to the cricket club
although their permission may be needed. The Council will put
diversion notices at the entrance to the car park while it is
closed. It is hoped that all the work will be completed well
before the clocks go back at the end of October. This work is
costing more than £200,000 and is the result of ten years of
effort by the committee and the support of all those who
contacted the Council and their Councillors. We will keep you in
touch with progress.'

Membership fees - PAY EARLY AND GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE OF A £25 REFUND Membership fees are due May 31. This year members paying before May 1, will be eligible for refund draw. Adults prizes £25, Junior prizes £10. Draw to be done in May committee meeting 2 adult and 2 junior prizes. Additional Bonus prize for members paying by direct transfer or credit/debit card. Members paying by cheque are only eligible if membership secretary receives cheque by May 1. Could all members please try to pay direct to bank or via credit / debit card through the web. There is a significant delay and risk associated with cheque payments, which the committee is trying to avoid.
